Its great to have books such as Fifty Years Of Public Service. So much has changed over the years.
Lots more changes will take place over the next few years. I have been told by a number of bus drivers that all Leopards and Bristols have to be withdrawn in the next 2 years - even with all the new buses Ulsterbus is buying I don't think it will cover the numbers of Leopards and Bristols which are still in service.
I was talking to a bus inspector one day and he told me that the original plan was to withdraw all Leop's and RE's 5 years ago.
Leyland Leopards still remain very much my favourite type of bus with 172 VOI 172 being my favourite. I have been getting 172 all my bus life - from about 1985. It will be a sad day for me when Ulsterbus withdraws all its Leopards.
On your Downpatrick fleet page you say that Leopards 205/6 are very slow. In Coleraine we have 208 which is the opposite. One driver I know well often refers to 208 as a f*cking flying machine and he races motorbikes in his spare time!!!
