The RE fleet is declining also in Coleraine. When I was at school at Coleraine, there was quite a large RE fleet: 2301 TOI 2301 (now withdrawn) 2380 UOI 2380 (Only here for a short time at end of 1997) 2382 UOI 2382 (withdrawn) 2398 UOI 2398 (Withdrawn) 2399 UOI 2399 (Withdrawn) 2438 WOI 2438 (Still in service, but there was plans a couple of years ago to move 2438 and 2440 to LD, but this never happened) 2440 WOI 2440 (Withdrawn) 2441 WOI 2441 (Still in service) 2454 WOI 2454 (Moved to Newry) 2455 WOI 2454 (Moved to Londonderry) 2458 WOI 2458 (Still in service) 2459 WOI 2459 (Withdrawn) 2598 BXI 2598 (Moved to Londonderry) 2599 BXI 2599 (Still in Service)
I am sure most people will agree that this is quite a decline. Most RE's spend there time operating out of the sub depots. 2599 is allocated to Kilrea, where you often can find it on normal service work. It is often used on the early 116 Kilrea - Coleraine service, and I have seen it being used a number of times on the Kilrea - Ballymena service. Should be a number of years left in 2599 yet but not sure about the others.
