    THE 700'S - 2nd hand RE's
It is interesting to note that a large number of 2nd hand RE's were purchased during the 1980's. The reason why large number's of this type were purchased , was because of the number of buses destroyed during the Troubles. The 2nd hand RE's mainly operated for Citybus but examples were also found in the Derry City fleet. These buses were often allocated to high risk depot's such as Fall's. As a result of this many only saw a short period in service, as many ended their days being burnt out. The 700 range dated from the early 1970's and all were purchased from English bus Firms such as Ribble. They all carried English regristration numbers. [ For some pictures of the 700's see the Irish Transport Trust / RE Views Page]
It is also interesting to note that the 700's often replaced the then new Citybus N Type Tiger's in summer months when violence was expected and the Tiger's were often placed in reserve or moved to safer depots.
Many 700's were placed in service at very short notice and as a result many carried the colours of their former owners.
