The Bedford demonstrator that I said carried fleet number 2 was registered EXE 276J. It was a YRQ from 1971. The demonstrator proved popular as it led to the eventual purchase of a large batch of this type of chassis which were fitted with Alexander (Belfast) B45F bodies. The Leyland National 1600 was registered EOI 8060 - a 44 seat dual - door model. It proved to be troublesome from the start spending long periods off the road waiting for spare parts. 1600 was scraped in 1989.
