Paul, I don't know how the Citybus duties are arranged, but if they are anything like the Derry duties, if there is say 5 mins between runs then the driver sits in the bus, but if there is 30 mins then the driver is likle to go to his 'rest area'. Frequency of 30min means that there is a bus every 30min if the round trip is 25 min or there abouts, then only one bus is needed, but usually the schudulers give no more than 5 or 6 round trips at anyone time, then a different duty takes over and so on. Drivers are slaughtered by the managers if they run early, but running late is OK. Although the passenger charter says that no bus will run more than 7 mins late, in reality, a driver can run 15 minutes late and not be touched. The only way he can be touched by running late is that if he puropsely runs late. A faily standard unofficial rule is that if you are more than half your journey time behind schedule, you 'lay-back' in other words, miss a run. This rule is not to be used too often as drivers can lose their jobs over this. and is usually used only on high frequency routes at busy times eg. Christmas. ciaran
