As I wrote yesterday I can remember travelling on these buses years ago.
As a brief aside it is possible to tell the age of aBristol without seeing its reg or its fleet number. Here's how by seeing the unique characteristics:
The early set the 2000s: these were (1)mostly dual doored, (2) had pointing down window wipers, (3) the first skylight was the only one that opened
    (4) the indicators were rounded and (5) the destination was at the left(looking from the front) the service no. was on the right.
The next set approx 2100-2210(1) about half were dual doored (2) had pointing down window wipers* (3) the first skylight was the only one that opened
    (4) the indicators were rounded (5)their service no was at the left(as now)
For an example of this look at the veh. types page on this site for a picture of
2190 and 2200 somewhere around Craigavon.
The next set approx early from approx 2210 to about 2350. (1) very few were dualdoored (2) had "pointing up"window wipers (as now), (3) their first skylight was the only one that could not open (4) their indicators were rounded and
    (5) their destination is as we now know it.
The next set approx 2350 to 2400: Points (1) to (3) as the previous set,
    (4) their indicators were Square and (5) as previous set.
Up until now all the Bristols had the same interior ie around the destination inside and between all the windows.
The final set 2400 to 2599: (1) very few were dual doored (the highest I know of is 2428 I think VOI 8428) (2) the last two skylights opened (3) they all had
pointing up wipers (4) their indicators were all square and their destination is as we know it.Their interior is a white/ light grey.
(* if you see any pictures of the old Leopards/LH's eg 1400s-1999 these have this characteristic also)
Back to the original point. Have alook at the ITT site (problems? try
www.irishtransporttrust.freeserve.co.uk/re.html and you may come across some pictures. Most dual doored buses operated in Belfast and Derry. However some single doored versions of the early fleet operated out of other depots (see ITT picture of 2038 in N'abbey). I can rember vividly travelling on 2123,2128,2133 and 2134 in the early 1990s. The first 3 were burnt and the 2134 was sold to Bus Eireann. These were replaced by 2160 and 2169 of Citybus fame and maintained their original fleet colours only to meet the same fate as 2134 about 5 months later. The only reason I remember these so clearly is because
it is when I really started to know about buses and these were the last 4 Ulsterbus DD buses that I am aware of. Citybus had already lost most of its
2100 fleet by 1992. (For info on the older Bristols see the ITT site at the above address.
Incidentally there are exceptons to the rule. At the ITT site there is a picture of a strange painted 2171 with square indicators at the front and rounded ones at the side. (type www.irish....blah....trust.freeserve.co.uk/2171.gif for a picture)
in fact try 2219,2131,2833 in place of 2171 in the above address.
Also some buses may have bits replaced by those of another due to damage etc but look for yourselves and see how the Bristol evolved over about 25 years
at photos on this site and at the ITT site and while you are out and about.
